Matthew Foster has been lobbying for responsible and smart auto insurance in the state of Florida.

Matthew Foster is a shareholder at the Tallahassee law firm of Brooks, LeBoeuf, Bennett, Foster & Gwartney, P. A. What you may not know, however, is Mr. Foster is also on the Board of Directors for the Florida Justice Association. The Florida Justice Association is “is dedicated to strengthening and upholding Florida’s civil justice system and protecting the rights of Florida’s citizens and consumers…. FJA works in the legislative, political and public arenas to ensure that Floridians know and understand the importance of their rights to justice and to make certain that these rights, which are at the very core of what it means to be American, are safeguarded and protected.”

Mr. Foster has focused his volunteer lobbying efforts this legislative session to require financial responsibility from those who would get behind the wheel of a car in the State of Florida. His work is being done through House Bill 19. The Bill would require Florida drivers to have at least $25,000 of liability insurance in the event they harm someone by carelessly operating their motor vehicle.

The Bill also eliminates an outdated law that requires Floridians to buy health insurance even though the vast majority of Floridians already purchase health insurance. Mr. Foster summed it up by saying, “this Bill holds bad drivers accountable and stops requiring good drivers to purchase health insurance when they already have it. Essentially, responsible drivers in Florida have been footing the bill which will now be shifted to the backs of those who injure others through careless driving. It just makes sense.”

Fortunately, the Bill passed the House of Representatives. A similar Bill is currently moving through the Senate.

“If this Bill becomes law,” stated Mr. Foster, “Florida will no longer be one of two states in the entire union that does not require such accountability. This is a good thing for Florida and Florida residents.”
