Unexplained Injuries

Unexplained injuries such as broken bones, skin tears, bruises and even unexpected weight loss bear investigation and suggest that there may be neglect in the facility. The fact pattern that seems to motivate a resident’s family to seek legal advice the fastest seems to be when family members learn about injuries that were not brought to their attention by facility staff, and cannot be explained be facility staff. Often, the context is when their loved-one arrives at the emergency room for one condition, and emergency room personnel inquire of the family about another previously unknown condition, such as a question about “How long has he/she had this bedsore?”
